Christy – Movie Review
“It will make you fall in love with Cork and its people”
Having experienced grief due to the plague that is drugs in the area, Christy is separated from what he calls home and his only brother. After using his fists more than his words, he is kicked out of the only foster home that was good for him. His estranged brother – Shane – takes him in, but he also has his own plans to make the arrangement temporary. But after being away for 13 years, almost 18-year-old Christy revisits his old stomping grounds. He encounters all of the characters who make up the world he left behind. Stacie, Shane’s wife, is the glue to the community with her caring heart and loyalty. She looks out for Christy while he’s there and gives him the benefit of the doubt that his brother fails to give him. He then meets Leona, who opens doors for him through friendship. Christy begins to understand what joy and family mean to the point where he is even comfortable enough to smile, something he’s been deprived of. But there’s still darkness at the end of the tunnel that he has to face before encountering the light. Will he make it out, or will he get consumed?
